WHY THIS MATTERS
The numbers run the business. But nobody can fully explain them.
TM1 is powerful precisely because it’s deep — and that depth is exactly what makes it opaque. Three problems show up in every Planning Analytics estate:
Logic nobody else can read
Rules, feeders and TurboIntegrator code live in the heads of one or two people. When they’re busy, or gone, so is the explanation.
Numbers nobody can explain
Finance asks why a figure moved. Tracing it through consolidations and rules takes an expert hours, and the answer arrives after the meeting.
Failures nobody sees in time
A chore fails overnight or a load half-finishes. You find out when the report is wrong, not when it broke.
The Plaicel TM1 MCP Server closes all three gaps. Anyone with access can question the model, and nothing in it can be changed.
WHAT IT DOES
Nine ways your model starts working for you
A purpose-built tool surface over the TM1 REST API — data, metadata, rules, processes and operations — so an assistant doesn’t just fetch numbers, it understands your model.
Explore the model
Cubes, dimensions, hierarchies, elements and attributes, described in plain language.
cubes_list · cube_describe · hierarchy_edges
Read live data
Read cells and saved views straight from TM1, as the signed-in user, with nothing exported.
cells_read · views_list · view_describe
Ask anything with MDX
Rankings, filters and totals no saved view answers. The assistant writes the MDX and runs it.
data_query
Explain any number
Trace a cell through its consolidations and rules, down to the inputs that drive it.
cell_explain
Read and check rules
Rules explained in plain English, and checked for syntax errors before they cause trouble.
cube_rules · cube_rules_check
Audit TI processes
Read process code, parameters and data sources, and check processes for problems.
processes_list · process_describe · process_check
Diagnose failures
Pull process error logs and the server message log, and explain what went wrong.
process_errors · log_messages
Track data changes
See who changed which values and when, from the TM1 transaction log.
log_changes
Watch the server
Server details, current activity and every chore with its schedule.
server_describe · server_activity · chores_list
IT WORKS WHILE YOU SLEEP
Stop firefighting. Start monitoring.
Because every tool is read-only, the same server that answers your questions can monitor your model when you schedule it: a morning check of chores, errors, the message log and recent changes.
Chore check
Which chores ran overnight, which failed, and which never started.
Error triage
Process error logs read and summarised, with the likely cause.
Message log review
Warnings and errors from the server log, in plain English.
Change watch
Unexpected edits to key cubes, with who made them and when.
WHY YOU CAN ACTUALLY DEPLOY IT
Built for the environment you actually have
Enterprise PA estates are on-prem, hybrid and locked down — and most AI tooling assumes none of that. This was designed for the real one.
On-premise and Cloud
TM1 v11, Planning Analytics Engine v12 and Planning Analytics as a Service. On-premise servers connect through Plaicel’s secure hybrid connection.
Your TM1 security, unchanged
Every request runs as the signed-in user, with their own TM1 session and rights. The assistant sees only what that person can see.
Read-only tools
The server reads data, metadata, rules and logs. No tool writes data, runs a process or changes your model.
Enterprise sign-in
OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect through Microsoft Entra ID. No TM1 passwords are handed to the AI.
Works with the AI you use
Tested with Claude Desktop and Claude in Excel, on the open Model Context Protocol. Results go to the AI client you connect, under that vendor’s terms.
Included with Plaicel Enterprise
No separate product to buy. The MCP Server comes with the Plaicel Enterprise plan on Microsoft AppSource.
See your own model explain itself
Book a working session and we’ll connect the Plaicel TM1 MCP Server to a Planning Analytics environment — on-prem or Cloud — and put it to work on your real cubes, rules and processes. Bring your hardest-to-explain rule. We’ll have the model walk you through it.
